Salachran, a traditional stone-built cottage, is situated about a mile and a half from the village of Bunessan, on the Isle of Mull.

Salachran has just recently been extended, by converting the adjoining barn. It can now accommodate 8 with comfort. There are two double bedrooms, a twin room, a bunk room and two folding mattresses.

The Isle of Mull and the neighbouring island of Iona lie just off the West Coast of Scotland, in the United Kingdom.

Many visitors arrive at Oban on their way to Mull and Iona, and from here, the seaward view is dominated by the rocky peaks and green slopes of the Mull mountains.

It is not far by car from a variety of safe, sandy beaches and offers a wide range of activities nearby, including swimming; bird-watching; hill-walking; fishing; geology, with notable fossil-beds; and generally relaxing in beautiful quiet surroundings.

Visits to places of interest includes:

  • a short ferry trip to the historic island of Iona
  • a longer sail to the isle of Staffa, famous for Fingal’s Cave
  • Duart Castle, Torosay Castle and the Mull single-gauge railway
  • Tobermory; Calgary Bay; Mull Little Theatre at Dervaig;
  • Carsaig Arches;
  • Balfour’s Bay on the island of Erraid;
  • fossil tree on Burg;
  • climb of Ben More.

All this normally keeps us busy for at least two weeks!

Bunessan can be seen at the South-west corner of Mull, on the road to Fionnphort. This is where the ferry leaves for Iona.

Bunessan is situated at the South-west corner of Mull
